Tiptoe into *web software engineering*~ Day 0.1
Technical orientation at cs.code.in
So, the second session is also through. Uncle Tick-tock 🥸 is moving fast, tbh. Yesterday was like a 'teaser' of what's coming.
Finally, we got to interact with our instructor, Prash. That dude is... something. His sheer experience in different tech streams will give any of those soi-disant (feeling French today😉) 'gurus' an inferiority complex😁 Don't get me started on his knowledge base, it's way too much. As an Irish woman would say, "Prash loves computers in bunches."
N.B. This blog might seem a bit haphazard. Apologies🙏 This session was like an intro to web engineering; Captain Prash👨🏼✈️ told us something about a lot of things, so it's a bit all over the place.
Some general reminders to the cohort:
Poor time management is detrimental to success. So, don't piss off Tick-tock Chacha⌛
Rote learning is not the goal, but a little bit of memorization is required in the beginner phase.
It's impossible to process everything of something in one go.
Whilst researching a topic, learn to pick the key ideas and let go of the noise.
Learn the technical jargon. Being proficient in the "industry lingo" shows that you know the game, which is essential for better career opportunities.
It's important to have a strategy - a plan of attack.
Web software engineering🤯, what the hell is that?
In a nutshell, it means to design, develop, test, maintain, and evaluate software (apps) on the web platform, that is, they function in a web browser.
Let's start from the end. Engineering involves converting ideas into reality. This conversion requires us to apply scientific and mathematical principles and an immense amount of problem-solving ability.
Now, software.
Software refers to a set of precise instructions/steps that a computer can execute or perform. Such instructions are written in a language machines can decipher, as regular English is gibberish😕 to them.
Okay... the web. The web is at the heart of this hyper-connected world. I mean, it is the driving force of this bootcamp. There are a lot of technical details to it, which I'll publish, hopefully, in my future blogs🤞(Uncle Tick-tock🥸 doesn't like me that much, not yet). We found out a crazy thing: the so-called "www." is not a real thing. It was just a silly folder name created by Tim Berners-Lee (the father of the web) during one of his demonstrations.
Click to see the first-ever web page.
**I can't recall much about the concept of "abstraction." But we'll surely get into that later.
Thanks. See you soon 😊
